Last night Wollongong’s newest media outlet – Coal Coast Baby – launched in the beautiful surrounds of Ray of Light yoga studio in Bulli.

Hats off to amazing local doula (and guru on all things pregnancy and baby) Briony Goodsell from The Nesting Place, who is the editor and founder of the new publication.

Launching a magazine in the current media climate takes guts, but Briony saw a gap in the market for this type of publication. The Illawarra is absolutely teeming with young families and amazing businesses supporting conception, pregnancy, birth and beyond. The fantastic launch and who’s who of the businesses featured is a credit to Briony.

In her launch speech Briony mentioned the three core values on which the magazine is founded – community, collaboration and connection. Three cheers for building this new resource on such strong foundations! The older (and wiser) I get, the more I realise the importance of collaboration and community. Rather than comparing and competing, good things come when we celebrate and connect.

Oh and did I mention I’ve written an article on active birth for the Coal Coast Baby website wearing my Better Births Illawarra hat?
